My stay in Hayden ,co at the hi way 40 lodge was very comfortable and the food was delicious every time I went to eat in. The people that ran the place we're great host. Jasson the owner of the adventure tours their showed me a great time riding the snowmobile way back in the mountains. The snow was deep so it was a experience that I will never forget thanks Jasson! I recommend if you are in the area and you like snowmobiling give Jasson a call he will show you a fun time.
We went to Breckenridge at the end of October - 6 adults and 2 children (6 & 4). We had a terrific time. Our adult children were skeptical about going to a ski town just before snow season - thought there wouldn't be anything to do - and they were pleasantly surprised.
We stayed at the Hilton Vacation Club property Valdoro Mountain Lodge - beautiful facility, pleasant and helpful staff, free shuttle around the area, could use the pool at the Doubletree next door, within walking distance to downtown shops and restaurants, hiking trails, in house spa services, nice work out room, outdoor hot tub, fun recreation room, and a lounge with bar. Loved having our own fire place and an outdoor balcony. Very nice Church community.
The Concierge helped us book a UTV ride/tour in the mountains for 3 adults and our 6 year old grandson. They said it was well worth the 45 minute drive up the mountains for their adventure - beautiful scenery, lots of wild life, fun driving the UTV, and informative/fun commentary from the guide. They even visited an old mining town. The UTV adventure was about 2 hours long - our crew drove their own UTV and followed the guide, stopping periodically to talk and take pictures.
Recommendation: We sent our crew up on the mountain with snacks, water/gatorade, and hand wipes. They were glad the Moms insisted on it. They were also glad they wore all of their winter gear, especially scarves, and that we put our little guy in his full snow suit. The mountain had snow...but we had no snow at the lodge...and the UTV ride itself created a lot of wind. Valdoro Mountain Lodge also provided goggles for everyone to use and that was a tremendous help for our crew - we only had sunglasses with us. We also had them bring a couple towels from the lodge's workout room for afterwards - they were a bit muddy and wet at the end of their ride.
The UTV tour was with Jason at Elk Mountain Adventures. You do need a vehicle to drive to get to them - it's 45 minutes from Breckenridge. The adult in our crew who drove the UTV has experience with driving them. He recommends the guided tour with driver for anyone not experienced with UTVs - especially if not experienced driving in snow.
Booking was easy and Jason was very responsive to my messages. We had a group of 9 people for a UTV tour, and the Leadville location was easy to find (and relatively close to Breckenridge, where we were staying). Jason provided all the instructions and guided us on our morning tour. He was calm and confident, which is exactly what we needed as we trekked up narrow trails with steep drop-offs (Mosquito Pass). Although most of us are afraid of heights, the tour gave us the right amount of thrills and fun--not to mention great memories for the family. I definitely recommend Elk Mountain Adventure tours, and plan to book them for snow mobile tours in the winter!
My husband went out to Elkhorn Adventure Tours last weekend. They picked him up, provided riding gear, new 800cc snowmobiles, and a tour guide to ride the mountain all to them selves. We would recommend and will recommend them to everyone we know.
I have never done a trip like this before so I wasn't sure what to expect, but these guys were awesome! They picked us up at the airport, brought us to our lodging, they supplied all the gear and top notch sleds. Our guide was John and he took us out, showed us the scenery, learned some new tricks and rode through some deep powder. You will not be disappointed...can't wait to go back!
We booked our 3 hour tour with Jason with one days notice. He was very accommodating and ended up being our tour guide. We were lucky to be the only 2 people for the tour (the other group did not show up). The tour started with a instruction and safety briefing of our 4 seater. Then we were off! The tour starts on the outskirts of Hayden and quickly you are on a dirt road through California Park. Jason stopped several times to let us catch up and point out Bear Mountain, Diamond Peak and other points of interest. There are easy flat straight a-ways as well as some hairpin turns to get a feel of what the UTV can handle. You cruise thru meadows, aspen groves and forest. It ends in a steep, rocky trail to the top of a mountain that allows view of Steamboat Lake and Hahns Peak area. It was incredible to experience the smooth ride this performance machine provided. (I can tell you this trail would have been moderately challenging and taxing for me on my dirt bike. A 4x4 could navigate this road but would be very slow and bouncy). After some time to soak in the views, we returned the same way.
I did not get to drive the UTV due to a recent wrist fracture/cast, but my husband had a blast. It was very fun being a passenger and see the beautiful landscape (although I was sad to not experience diving the UTV).
The only downside... The time allotted for the tour is definitely for several vehicles. Since we were the only UTV, I felt like we were "stopped and waiting/viewing" for longer than I wanted. Granted, with several UTV's spread apart (for dust conditions) it would probably be perfect.
Had and amazing time great bunch of guys ! Amazing country to free ride. Lots of snow great condition provided an amazing trip. My guy Hick was very helpful and provided great advice ...Will definitely be returning again soon
